I took on a Commission a while ago for Mambo Dinamico in Raleigh. This commission was quite a challenge, mainly because towards the end of everything, I was already relocated to Maryland, and the girls were all still in North Carolina. With all the challenges that kept surfacing with this project, things always come together in the end with a bit of persistence, sleepless nights, and hundreds of miles on the road. But I love what I do, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I have to admit. I Miss School. A lot. I am sure I’ll go back some day to learn more, but for now, I have these. I found these on my hard drive and I don’t think I even put them anywhere. These are some shots from our Textiles Senior Showcase April 17th, 2007. This was something me and my partner in Crime put together with the help of our fellow Senior Class designers and supervisors. It’s good to just reminisce, and I really do miss many of my fellow designers from school. Hopefully our paths will cross again at some point.

I met Johanna at Bazaar Spark last year when I was perusing all the fellow artists that had been involved in Spark Con. For those that haven’t been, if you are interested in seeing what local artists are doing and getting a chance to talk to them, check it out every fall at Sparkcon! I remember as I was walking, I realized that I am a ABSOLUTE TERRIBLE judge of accessorizing my pieces(and my excuse is every time is ‘OH It’s ALL ABOUT THE GARMENT, WHO NEEDS JEWELRY’) and I need to find somebody that can direct me towards something. Now when I buy jewelry, I don’t even really consider it jewelry buying. More like Art shopping. I end up going and getting the most elaborate looking pieces that I have no intention of ever wearing, and I’d rather put it on the wall or put it in a glass case cause it just looks so pretty. I Adore Johanna’s work. Everything is a work of art, and if you check out her Etsy Store, she even has romantic stories attached to each piece(I dream of being a princess/faerie everyday, I need that constant encouragement you know). She describes her studio as creating “Eco-Conscious Statement Jewelry” where she scourers for vintage jewelry pieces and accessorieses to remodel into a new piece. I think it’s brilliant and Johanna’s exquisite eye for attention and detail really comes through in each piece. My new Collection-FashionSpark 2009

FashionSpark was a complete Success!!!!!! I had a wonderful time and was very happy with how well everything went. I met some amazing people, and it still excites me that Raleigh has so much FRESH talent going on, and FINALLY people will get to see it. My collection was inspired by aquatic elements. I took some inspiration from Coral formations, the Ocean, The textures of the oceanfloor and a bit of 18th and 19th century design elements. I also wanted to mix alot of textures both in Draping elements and different textured fabrics. These four pieces are part of a full collection I will be working on through the end of the year, and hopefully, begining 2010 I will be having my own show and will be showing my full collection.

Sparkcon 2009- Fashion Spark

I think one of the best events to celebrate here in the Triangle is SparkCon. You can finally see all the amazing talent that is located right here locally, and you don’t even have to search for it. Sparkcon consists of four days full of Music shows, art shows, fashion shows, and vendors, most which are free to attend. For a full schedule of all the events this weekend click here.

I am one of the fifteen Designers chosen to showcase my work Friday September 18th at FashionSpark starting at 8pm. The show will be on Fayeteville Street downtown, right in the middle of the street! I will be showcasing a couple pieces from my upcoming collection, so come get a sneak peak and look for more updates on my own Fashion Show coming early next year!!!!
