BIO
Carolina Wang has been designing since the age of 12. She was given a sewing machine, some patterns, and the basic instructions on operating the machine, and was left to figure out the rest on her own. Within the next two years, her costume portfolio grew quickly and extensively as she traveled up and down the East Coast for the next 6 years competing and showcasing her work.
In 2003 she enrolled in North Carolina State University College of Textiles where she acquired her bachelor’s degree in Textiles and Apparel Management with a Concentration in Fashion Design and Product Development. During her four and half years at NCSU, Carolina contributed towards the growth of the Fashion Curriculum at the College of Textiles. She was awarded the Young Menswear Association Scholarship in 2006 and swept the competition in the 2007 African American Textiles Fashion Expose, taking home First Place in Couture, Best in Show, as well as the Audience Favorite Awards.
Carolina has worked in a variety of costume design Medias, such as Film and theater. In 2005, she freelanced with Turner Studios for a commercial that later aired nationally on Cartoon Network. She has also worked freelanced locally with the North Carolina Theater doing alterations and costume construction. More notably, in the summer of 2007, Carolina interned under the teaching of 5-Time Tony award winning Designer William Ivey Long in New York City. During her time in NYC, she worked on the Broadway production of Young Frankenstein doing fabric swatching, researching, shopping, and costume fitting. Along with Young Frankenstein, Carolina also did work on other Broadway shows and projects such as: Chicago, Hairspray, Herringbone, The Lost Colony, The Ritz, and Curtains. Carolina’s thorough understanding of all types of textiles materials, as well as her ability to quickly adapt to any environment, helped her successfully prosper during her time in New York.
Now, Carolina stays in Baltimore Maryland as a Men’s Product Developer for UnderArmour, while also continuing to work on costume commissions as well as a variety of graphic design projects. Carolina is always looking for fresh new and challenging projects to further pursue her dreams and goals. Her critical eye for design and details has contributed to her extensive and elaborate portfolio.
